The General Motors New Vehicle Military Program is a Chevrolet dealership initiative that assists eligible and qualified military personnel. The program permits eligible American army and military members to buy or contract eligible automobiles with a special and unique proposal. In addition, this program of appreciation offers qualified candidates (American Army retirees) the opportunity to use the offer provided by the program to buy or contract new automobiles from a particular dealer. 

 

Upon purchasing a vehicle via the program, the candidate and the sponsored purchaser agree to adhere to all rules and regulations. 

Who is Eligible?

Candidates who qualify for the program are National Guard members, Veterans, Reservists, as well as those who served in the following American branches of the military:

What to Bring as Proof of Eligibility

Service Member: An LES (Leave and Earnings Statement) is to be used by Service Members for eligibility. A recent LES is required, one that was dispensed in the last 30 days shows your activation dates. 

 

Veteran Verification: Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD214 within the timespan of 3 years of discharge)

 

Retiree Verification: 



  • eRAS (Retiree Account Statement)
  • VA Card
  • Verification of Pay Letter
  • Retiree Separation Orders
  • Uniformed Services ID Card
  • DAVPRM Uniformed ID Card

Rules and Guidelines

Registration

Before candidates can use the program to buy or contract an eligible vehicle, they must first register via ID.me to confirm the status of their military position. 

Authorization Numbers

Every candidate is restricted to two authorization numbers each year. Each number has a 90-day window in which it’s validated. 

 

GM will send a notification to the candidate notifying them that the authorization number has been sent. Additionally, the candidate is responsible for informing GM of unaccredited authorization numbers as soon as possible. 

Inducements

Candidates are not permitted to solicit or accept money, to the exclusion of GM incentives, from dealerships or others attempting to purchase eligible vehicles via the program. 

Fees for Documentation

Dealers are allowed to use a maximum amount of $75 for fees related to documentation. Excluding when: 



  • The fee is explicitly stated in the state law
  • The dealer imposes charges on all customers at the same rate as the documentation fee

Titling Restrictions

An automobile contracted or purchased via the program is only used as a personal or non-commercial vehicle by the candidate. Purchasing, registering, title, or leasing an automobile for business-related reasons is forbidden. 

 

Vehicles under the program must be titled, licensed, registered, and owned by the participant. Furthermore, automobiles are permitted to be mutually registered, titled, licensed, etc., by a spouse. Also, cars may be co-titled on the stipulation that the proceeding conditions are applied: 



  • Candidate’s name has to be first on the title
  • Candidate’s name has to be first on the registration
  • Candidate’s name has to be first the financial documents

Period of Vehicle Retention

If the candidate is buying or contracting an automobile via the program using cash or a loan of some sort, the candidate must adhere to remaining in position of the vehicle for a minimum of 6 months.
