That’s why Weelborg Chevrolet of Glencoe is here to help. In this article, we’ll compare the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado and the Ram 1500 in different categories to help you determine which truck is best suited for you.
Head-to-Head Comparison Between the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. The 2023 Ram 1500
Price
One of the first considerations that most buyers establish is their budget. Purchasing a vehicle is an investment. For this comparison, we compared each truck's starting base models and top-of-the-line trims.
Starting at around $37,410, Ram offers the Ram 1500 Tradesman. This trim is in the Quad cab (4-door) body style. The interior comes equipped with a 5-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo, and USB ports. The most expensive trim would be the Ram 1500 TRX, which starts at $84,555. This comes with a whopping 702 horsepower, a supercharged V8 engine, high-performance dual exhaust, a wide grill, flared fenders and flared bedsides, launch control, and a retuned suspension.
In contrast, the base model for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts around at a respectable $36,000 in a regular cab configuration. This three-seat style is one that Ram doesn’t offer. The base trim is aptly named the WorkTruck. The interior comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB ports, and a two-speaker stereo. The most expensive trim in the Silverado lineup is the ZR2, which starts at around $71,500. This truck was designed with AEV and has off-roading enhancements in mind. These enhancements include a 6.2-liter V8 engine, reinforced skid plate protection, AEV HighMark Fender Flares, and better approach and departure angles.

Reliability
Picking a reliable vehicle is an attribute every car owner needs. In this section, we’ll compare J.D. Power scores. These ratings are a combination of quality and dependability scores based on initial owner response and feedback. Meanwhile, dependability scores are focused on long-term ownership experience of 3 years or greater.
The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado scored an impressive J.D. Power score of 85 out of 100 for its reliability. The 2023 Ram 1500 has yet to receive a J.D. Power score, but the 2022 Ram 1500 received an 81 out of 100.
Winner: Inconclusive but with a slight edge to the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Comfort
Driving in comfort is an additional bonus. Depending on what you intend on using your vehicle for, this may or may not be a dealbreaker. It’s important to bear in mind that your own values need to be at the forefront.
The Silverado 1500 Worktruck can seat three people comfortably if you choose the Cab body style. If you are looking to have more passenger occupancy, the Double Cab or Crew Cab options can seat up to six people. The Crew Cab configuration offers the most rear legroom and is easily the most spacious of the options.
On the other hand, the 2023 Ram 1500 can be configured to fit five to six passengers in the standard Quad Cab. Their Crew Cab configuration boasts even more space and comfort. The seats also take the advantage over the Chevy’s in terms of comfortability.
Winner: 2023 Ram 1500
Cargo Space
One main reason many people purchase pickup trucks is to be able to haul both people and cargo. Having amply designed cargo space can be a big factor in which truck suits your lifestyle. From camping gear to construction lumber, your truckbed should be able to handle whatever cargo you need to move easily.
Ram 1500 buyers have the option of two cargo beds. They can choose between a 5 foot 7 inches bed or a 6 foot 4 inches alternative.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes with more expansive options for its cargo beds. Buyers can choose from three bed options: an 8-foot bed, a 6-foot-6-inch bed and a 5-foot-8-inch bed. The Silverado's long and standard bed has more room than the larger Ram 1500's two bed options.

Interior Features
Interior features and tech incorporations have become more of a hot button in today’s times. Vehicles have evolved to be more than just a means of getting from point A to point B. They’ve become work centers, meeting rooms, and so much more. The features inside a vehicle matter almost as much as what’s under the hood.
The base model Ram 1500s provides owners with a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with standard Bluetooth capabilities, USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo. There are upgrades available at an additional cost. These upgraded features include an 8.4 or 12-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation, and a sunroof.
Chevrolet provides more in their base model, coming equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In the base model, Apple CarPlay and Andriod, two USB ports, and a two-speaker stereo are standard. If you want to spring for an upgrade, the Silverado 1500 is available with a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Winner: Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Fuel Economy
The Ram 1500 truck is one of the most fuel-efficient trucks available with a turbodiesel engine. These models return 21 MPG in city driving and 29 MPG on the highway. The Ram's most efficient gas engine delivers 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.
The Chevy Silverado returns up to 24 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway with its turbodiesel engine. The Silverado's most fuel-efficient gas engine delivers 19 MPG in city driving and 22 MPG on the highway.
Chevrolet offers a more economical diesel engine, but the Ram 1500 does get better mileage if you choose to go with a gas powertrain. For these reasons, the two pick-ups tie in this comparison.
Winner: Tie
Towing Capacity
If you’re someone who has plenty to haul, whether it be trailers, RVs, fifth-wheelers, etc., the towing capacity of your vehicle will make a significant difference in your purchase decision.
The Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds when you choose the rear-wheel drive Quad Cab with a V8 engine. Other V8 models can tow between 7,800 and 11,500 pounds. Meanwhile, the diesel model tows up to 12,560 pounds, with the V6 chiming in at a towing capacity of 7,690 pounds.
Chevrolet hoists up serious towing capacity in this round, with their trucks towing up to 13,300 pounds if you choose the diesel engine or their 6.2-litre V8. The other 5.3-litre V8 can tow up to 11,00 pounds, while their base model comes in with a towing capacity of 9,500 pounds.
