Review
Upon first glance, the combatively designed 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 communicates to everybody that this isn’t an everyday, run-of-the-mill half-ton pickup. The ZR2 – for all intents and purposes – is the most demanding full-size pickup in Chevy's exhibit. Coupled with its fearsome exterior, it also offers a 420-hp V8, cruises on 33-inch-tall tires, and provides a rigged-out suspension.
The latter features Multimatic spool-valve dampers which are acquired from Formula 1 race cars as well as Baja race trucks. The inside is also draped out with a virtual dashboard, and its crew-cab-only body design entails that everybody can relish in the ride when the blacktop comes to an end.
What's Expected for 2022?
The Silverado will now sport the ZR2 badge, which once appeared on tinier Chevy pickups and SUVs with an all-terrain slant.
Cost and Which Trim to Purchase
Chevy has yet to say what the price of the Silverado ZR2 will be when it’s released in the spring of 2022. Since it's situated as the lineup's primary trim, we believe it will cost around the same as the up-to-the-minute High Country trim, which is presently priced at about $55,000.
Engine, Performance, and Transmission
Underneath the ZR2's protruding hood can be found the same reduced 6.2-liter V-8 that's accessible in the normal Silverado 1500. The motor generates 420 hp as well as 460 pound-feet of torque and couples with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Each ZR2 provides a four-wheel-drive network with a two-speed transfer case and electric-locking front and back differentials.
Balancing the pickup’s 18-inch wheels, which are equipped with 33-inch all-terrain tires, is a specifically adjusted suspension that offers top-of-the-line spool-valve dampers. The truck's underbelly is safeguarded by a distinct skid plate bundle, and Chevy claims the ZR2's high-positioned alloy bumper offers a 31.8-degree approach angle; more than what's seen on the hoisted Silverado Trail Boss trims.
Hauling and Payload Volume
With a traditional trailer hitch, the Silverado ZR2 has the ability to haul as much as 8900lbs. Moreover, it can also manage a payload of as much as 1440lbs.
Interior, Cargo, and Comfort
The interior of the Silverado ZR2 offers a smooth-appearing dashboard that sports a 12.3-inch fully virtual instrument console next to a large 13.4-inch touchscreen. The cabin offers leather-trimmed seating and stylish dark trim. In between the front buckets, a center console provides a T-shaped electric shifter.
Only available in a crew-cab body design, the ZR2 offers commodious passenger room, specifically in the rear seat.
Infotainment and Connectedness
A large paralleled positioned 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment network comes as standard equipment with the Silverado ZR2. In conjunction with Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, the network is well-suited for Amazon Alexa and provides an integrated Google app store, maps, and voice assistance.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Attributes
Each Silverado offers a myriad of stock driver-assistance automation and there’s a mixture of discretionary assists that allow driving as well as towing to be more easygoing. Key safety attributes include:
- Standard forward-collision alert and automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-departure alert and lane-keeping assist
- Adaptive cruise control
Maintenance and Warranty Coverage
Chevy offers coverage for the half-ton Silverado with a competitive warranty. Additionally, each Silverado 1500 gets one complimentary maintenance visit.
- Limited warranty covers 36,000 miles (or three years)
- Powertrain warranty covers 60,000 miles (or five years)
- Complimentary maintenance for one visit is covered
